Darlington striker Reece Styche said that he was “gutted” for keeper James Talbot following his dismissal at Alfreton last weekend.

The young keeper was red carded near the end of the match for his part in an off-the-ball incident, and he held his hands up afterwards in the changing room.

But Reece was quick to offer re-assurance, and said; “After what happened to me against Salford, I know exactly how he felt. I felt gutted for him afterwards. You feel as if you’ve let the team down, but you’ve got to bounce back from it.”

Bouncing back is exactly what Reece did on Saturday, when he scored his seventh goal of the season to put Quakers into the lead at Alfreton.

“It was a relief to bounce back quickly after my penalty miss against Salford. I admit that I didn’t hit the penalty with conviction, and I misjudged it. I paid the price for it. I put my hands up, it was my fault.

“Now, I want to score more goals for the team. “

Reece has already played against Chorley this season for Tamworth, the game ending in a goalless draw.

“Chorley are very solid defensively, and they work really hard. They’ll be a tough game, but I don’t think anyone is a cut above us judging by our recent performances.

“We have to take those performance levels into Saturday’s game. I believe that the team is too good to be relegated, after all most of the players were in the team that got into the play offs last season.”
