Cameron started his career at Carlisle United and played twice for them before having loan spells at Whitby and Annan Athletic. When he was released by Carlisle, he joined Gateshead for a season, before moving to Scotland and signing for Greenock Morton.

He also played for Ayr United and Clyde, whom he helped into the Scottish League One play off final last season.
