Max came through the academies at Carlisle United and Newcastle United before gaining valuable senior experience through a series of loan spells with Annan Athletic, helping the Scottish side secure promotion to Scottish League One. He also spent time on loan at Queen of the South before making a permanent move to Annan in 2024.
Despite still being only 22, Max has already amassed 142 senior appearances, scoring 12 goals. Comfortable across a number of positions on the left-hand side, he arrives at Blackwell Meadows as a versatile defender with plenty of experience and potential to develop further.
Max joins Darlington ahead of the 2026/27 season and will add quality, competition and flexibility to the squad, with the ability to operate at left-back, left wing-back, left centre-back or further forward when required.
