Matty Cornish

Position: Midfielder

An attacking midfielder, Matty played Northern League football for Newcastle Benfield, Whitley Bay, and Consett, featuring in the 2020 FA Vase final. He also spent time in the USA with several clubs, including Nova Southeastern University, helping them reach the national semi-finals.

Matty returned to England in July 2022, joining Blyth Spartans, followed by a spell at Marske United. He signed for The Quakers in January 2024, quickly becoming a key figure in our successful campaign to avoid relegation, scoring six goals in 18 matches. Last season, he scored another six goals in 45 appearances, establishing himself as a creative force in midfield.

Manager Steve Watson said:

“Matty will admit himself that he had a slow start last season, but in the second half of the campaign, we saw the player we know he can be. He’s someone who can create and do something a bit different in the final third, and we need as many players like that as possible. We are looking forward to seeing Matty deliver a full season at the level he showed towards the end of last year.”
