Finlay, 22, started his career at Norwich City, and when he left there in 2019, he had a season at Norwich United before joining Leiston in the Southern League Central. 

He scored double figures in terms of goals and assists in two season, before he moved to York City during the summer of 2023. York decided to give him some game time by joining Darlington on loan in August, on an initial one month loan.
